MEDIA LITERACY CAMP- 2019
As a first of its kind in Delhi- NCR, Tagore International School, East of Kailash hosted Media Literacy Camp 1.0 over a period of three days from 16 to 18 May 2019. The camp was hosted in partnership with Chinh India.
A total of 12 teams  comprising of 4 members in each team partIcipated in the competition which had a strong learning component to it. In the inaugural ceremony, Ms Meenakshi and Mr Vinay Rai, the celebrated film maker couple stressed on the need of conveying opinions and sentiments on issues close to one's heart. They also acquainted the students with the finer nuances of film making. The techniques of film making were imparted to the participating students.  With the school as the canvass and the school property as resources, the students came up with brilliant movies that conveyed meaningful messages. The three days saw great camaraderie amongst the students of the 12 participating schools. Ideas were  conceived,  discussed with the experts from Chinh India, scripted, executed through filming and edited. The school campus reverberated with hectic activity- the buzz permeated every corner of the school.
On the ultimate day, all the movies were screened and the judgement was done by the students. An interactive session with Mr. Tony Blair, Executive Chairman, Institute of Global Change held on 9 January, 2019

Global Ties – Interaction with the Former British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair

As active and ardent participants of the Generation Global Face to Faith video conferences, the students and staff of Tagore International School, East of Kailash were honoured to host the former British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair in the school premises on 9 January 2019.

Generation Global is a pioneering global education programme that provides students with the skills and experience they need to navigate difference in a peaceful way. The programme provides opportunities for students to put critical thinking skills into practice through facilitated dialogue.

Mr. Tony Blair, Executive Chairman, Institute for Global Change, interacted with the students of seven schools from Delhi NCR region who have been actively involved in the Institute for Global Change’s Generation Global programme, and are rather pro at it. It was indeed a matter of pride for the school to have been selected from among 200 schools to host the event and welcome the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to interact with the young leaders. Mr. Sanjay Bareja and Ms. Nonica Kochhar, Technical Coordinators, Ms. Ghanapriya Elangbam, Country Coordinator, Generation Global also attended the event along with Ms. Sandhya Gupta, Education Consultant, Asia, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, who moderated the interaction.

Both students as well as teachers involved in Generation Global activities got the opportunity to share their personal experiences during their video conferences with their partner schools from Indonesia, Pakistan, Phillipines, Israel and many other schools across borders, with Mr. Blair. They were also excited to talk about the changes that they noticed in their own personality as a result of their participation in this programme at school. Two students from the host school presented a portrait each to Mr. Blair and got one autographed to be kept as a memento at school.

In his address, Mr. Blair said, “Real education is about how to become creative, and creativity comes from open and not closed minds.” He further added, “What you don’t understand, you fear and what you fear, you dislike”. Mr. Blair explained that the aim of the programme is ultimately about teaching people how to have open minds.

Ms. Mallika Preman, Principal of the host school suggested that the ‘Kindness Programme’, a water conservation project of which Angela Arora, the Vice President, School Cabinet of the host school, is a part of, could be taken forward by Generation Global. Teachers also suggested initiating exchange programmes through Generation Global and partnering with students from the UK to tread the path to a better world together.

Ms. Madhulika Sen, Director, Tagore International School, appreciated the honest feedback of the students and expressed her delight on being a part of the programme. The event ended with the energetic and confident young learners thanking Mr. Blair for the contributions he has made to nurture the youth of today as global citizens of tomorrow.
