Pitambar Publishing Company and Rising Sub Publishing Company in association with ‘Bookwallahs’ from Bangalore, organized a Storytelling workshop for Librarians. The Resource person was Ms. Nupur Aggarwal from ‘Storywallahs’. She shared some easy tips and techniques to use stories as a powerful means of communication.The style of Telling affects the audience. A Story well told is a story well remembered. Playing with Stories help to connect, influence, motivate and bond with children. Basic factors in storytelling are facial expressions, voice modulation, body language and volume to match with the scenario.  She introduced the different styles of telling stories like Draw and Tell, Fold and Tell, Cut and Tell, Musical, etc. She also made us understand the essential ingredients for creating stories through games and activities.We were also introduced to Artist Abhishek Singh and Author Ritu Vaishnav.

A one-day workshop was conducted by Ms Kiran Mishra to facilitate better mentoring and guidance to the students in creative writing.

To enhance writing skills as the budding writers often come up with some flaws that need to be pointed out. Use of idioms, phrasal verbs and proverbs enriches our creative writing manifold. Interesting ways of incorporating idioms and phrasal verbs were demonstrated through engaging activities which were also helpful in learning their meaning and usage.

Ms Kiran Mishra also showed different ways to help children compose poems by discussing myriad types of poems which can generate their interest.

 

VISIT TO FORTIS ESCORTS HOSPITAL, OKHLA
Class XI Biology and Safety Club students of Tagore International School, East of Kailash attended a Basic Life Support Course organized by The Fortis Escorts Hospital, Okhla on 17th January 2019.
The exhilaration of the students about their first on-site visit further enhanced after the session given by Dr Shaarang Sachdev on First Aid. He, being the Head of Emergency Department, instructed the students the importance of First Aid and the various measures that should be undertaken at the very instant of the accident. He explained the students the technicalities of doing a CPR and the students practiced the same on a mannequin.
The second half of the programme enlightened the students about various remedies to small injuries like minor burns, cuts, bee stings, and other cases like fainting due to heat stroke or exhaustion and strained ligaments.
The enthusiasm of the students reached its peak when they were allowed to take a round of the hospital and visit the blood bank and the emergency. The students were informed about the various tests that were done to check the donor's blood before it was stored and provided to the needy. The senior doctor made them familiar with the different machines like the ventilator and its working.
The students were awarded certificates for their active participation and for completing the course with flying colours.  Overall, it was an enriching and unforgettable experience that the students would always cherish for their lifetime.
 
 
Workshop on ‘Bridging Learning Differences’ by Dr. Roma Kumar, Clinical Psychologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital & Max Hospital

A session was organized on the theme ‘Bridging learning differences’ on 19th January, 2019 for the parents of classes I TO V. The key speaker for the session was Dr. Roma Kumar, a Senior Consultant at the Institute of Child Health at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and at Max Hospital Gurgaon. A renowned clinical psychologist, she has been recognized by various communities and associations for her influence and growth in the field of psychology in India. Dr. Kumar is also associated with the Delhi Council for Child Welfare, along with various central and state education boards.
The aim of the workshop was to help parents understand children through a psychological perspective. The fact that each child is unique and special in his/her own way was emphasized and parents were given an opportunity to interact with Dr. Kumar. 
She resolved the queries of the parents and guided them by giving some valuable parenting tips.   
Dr. Kumar accentuated the fact that special need parenting is a lifestyle that one needs to adopt it in daily life. Parents showed a positive reception towards the session and requested school for similar workshops in future.
 
Workshop on Making Effective and Attractive Portfolios with Stylized Text

A workshop was conducted by the school’s computer department for teachers to make attractive headings using Photoshop CS3.  Teachers practiced making stylized text titles that they could save and use later.  The teachers were eager to learn and made colourful titles to use in their portfolios and other documents.

 

Business Studies Workshop For Class XII

Tagore International school, East of Kailash organized a special session for the students of Class XII Commerce stream on Thursday, 13th December, 2018. The session was conducted by Mr. Rajesh Kumar Mahajan who is an expert in Commerce with over 21 years of experience. He is the author for Business Studies books.
He analysed the Business Studies board exam pattern and discussed with children the CBSE marking scheme and guidelines. He instilled the children with confidence by not only clearing the most confusing concepts of business studies but also by discussing various career options. He guided the eager children on how to achieve their ultimate goal by the principles of clear vision, hard work and faith.
The session ended with a feedback session. All in all, the session was very engaging and the children took home a lot of learnings, tips and tricks from it.
 
Accountancy Workshop For Class XII

Tagore International school, East of Kailash organized a special session for the students of Class XII [Commerce stream] on Friday, 7th December, 2018. The session was conducted by Dr. Vikas Vijay who is an Accountancy Expert. He has been affiliated with CBSE and authored many books. He made the children believe in their dusty potential and guided them on how to tap it. Further he analysed sample papers with the children. He gave a very clear strategy to the students on how to score in the Board Examination.
It was a very interactive session and the students took back a lot of learnings from it, which they discussed about in the feedback session which was placed in the end.
 
   
 
 
Robotics Conclave “VIGYANTRAM”
A two-days Robotics Conclave “VIGYANTRAM” was conducted in the school in association with Aakaar-Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai on November  19 & 20, 2018.
Vigyantram is a National level championship based on latest technological advancement with a series of technical workshops in association with Radiance, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai. The fest was about embracing the new medium which encouraged the  students to shed their inhibitions and set the stage ablaze with their immense talent at the national level platform.
The Zonal competition was conducted on the 2nd day after the workshop in the school. The top 3 teams have been  selected for the semi-finals to be conducted at  IIT, Mumbai. Each participant will be given a certificate. It was an excellent exposure to students who are inclined towards science and technology to sharpen their skills and represent our school at IIT, Mumbai. 
 
Workshop on ‘Positive Parenting’ by Dr. Roma Kumar, Clinical Psychologist, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital & Max Hospital

Positive Parenting workshop took place at Tagore International School, East of Kailash, for the parents of classes III to V. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Roma Kumar, a Senior Consultant at the Institute of Child Health at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and at Max Hospital Gurgaon. Dr. Kumar has vast experience and has been featured in prominent scientific national and international journals, in textbooks of Pediatrics and Psychology, newspapers, magazines as well as on Radio and TV Channels.
The aim of the workshop was to pro-actively reach out to the parents and encourage them to create a positive family atmosphere, belief in the concept of listening to their wards and to effectively meet up to any parenting challenge in today’s modern world.
She shared her views on how to look beyond the behavior of a child and to connect more with them.       Dr. Kumar also highlighted the importance of setting a routine for children and striking the right balance between discipling a child and giving into his or her emotional needs. She emphasized that a more participative, involved style of parenting will build trusting relationship between the parent, child and the school and will make more secure and mature adults in future.
With many questions, doubts and dilemmas being clarified at the workshop, it turned out to be an extremely interactive session. The workshop left a grave impact on the minds of parents who already began planning to re-structure their home environments to benefit their children with a complete focus on positive parenting.
 
Report on Workshop – Introduction to GIS and Story Maps
On 17th November 2018, Saturday workshop was conducted on introduction to Geographic Information system (GIS) and Story Maps by ESRI India.
In the workshop teachers were introduced to the concept and application of GIS. Story map helps ones to harness the power of maps and geography to tell your story.
Teachers learned how to make story maps by hands on learning exercise. They successfully created maps. It was an interactive session where teachers were enthusiastic about learning to create story maps.
Tagore International School, East of Kailash hosted the workshop for various schools. Teachers from Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar; Scottish High International School, Gurgaon; Suncity School, Parevartan School, Ghaziabad and Sai Memorial School attended the workshop.

Dr. Yatan Pal Singh Balhara, Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in Psychiatric department, AIIMS has been working in the area of substance use disorders for the past 10 years. He has also been associated with ‘Behavioral Addiction clinic’ related to ‘Internet Addiction’ among young generation.
Dr. Balhara discussed about how students who are glued to internet and social media can slip into serious psychiatric issues and might require help. He highlighted how addiction can be prevented, identified and treated.
It was a highly interactive session where parents addressed their queries to the expert.

 Workshop on Entrepreneurship

NPSC in collaboration with 'NuturePreneurs,' an Ahmedabad based organisation has organized a one-day orientation program on entrepreneurship for students of Class 10th, 11th and 12th of NPSC member schools.  The workshop was held on October 26, 2018 (Friday) at Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar.
More than 20 school from Delhi and NCR region attended this workshop.
Three students from our school Ayushi Arora, Barnali Das and Dipanshu Arora from class XI got a chance to work with the students of various other schools which not only enhanced their problem-solving skills but also helped in exchange of ideas.
Ms. Aditi Nemani being the founder gave an extremely interesting briefing regarding what it was all about followed by a set of brainstorming activities.
After discussion on the term entrepreneurship, a quiz was organized on characteristics of entrepreneurship followed by an interactive session on future prospects
Overall it was an amazing experience for the participants.
Innovation Day

Tgelf, in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics, has hosted an Innovation Day at the Moody’s Gurgaon office. The Innovation Day offers exposure to students who are participants of the Tgelf Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge so that they may be guided and receive insights from senior business leaders at Moody’s in firming up their business plans.
 A workshop was held on 4th October, 2018, for the students taking part in the Youth Entrepreneurship competition. The workshop witnessed over ten schools from all over Delhi NCR. The session started with the words of guidance by Mr. Chabbra and Mr. Sumit Soni, the assistant directors of Moody’s. They gave a generic view of the events which would come forth. The personnel of the company gave a brief description of the section they have under them. There were brief discussions on topics such as credit and analysis research, sales and marketing, product developing, market and product strategy, etc. Students were taught, to be able to make a product successful in the market, demand and supply analysis is essential. We were also given information about the sources of information and their various types, primary and secondary. Students elaborated on the plan their teams have developed, this gave all the teams a distinct idea of how their co-teams are going about it. The teams also got to ask questions to the instructors and ask for solutions, suggestions. Students also had one to one access to talk to the instructors. The sessions were very beneficial and informative for all the students attended; it ended with the well wishes from the CFO of the branch company.

Factory Visit

The students were welcomed in the conference room thereafter they honored the Chairman and Managing Director of the Group with bouquets.
The Victora Group founded by Mr. G. S. Banga in the year 1972 today stand as the recognized name in the automotive parts industry in the world over. Presently the Group has diversified into business of White Goods and Hospitality industry. Carrying the legacy, the Group is well managed by Mr. S. S. Banga and Mr. H. S. Banga. The Group specializes as an established manufacturer and supplier in Sheet Metal Components, Automotive Seat Frames, Exhaust System Components, Stampings, Exhaust Hangars, Forged, CNC Machined Components and Heavy-Duty Elevators to major OEs across the Globe.
The students were highly impressed and they showed their gratitude to the Founder of the Group Shri G. S. Banga Ji, 86 years old, who has established the company with his sincerity and hard work. Mr. G. S. Banga along with his son Mr. H. S. Banga, Managing Director had a very good interactive session with the students in the Conference Room, where they got the opportunity to know about the Victora Group through a corporate and a motivational video. Mr. H.S. Banga, Managing Director, briefed the student that their company is working on the concept of “Make in India” whereby they import the technology from other countries and based on that technology do the production indigenously, thereby saving a lot of foreign outflow. The strong bonding with the staff has created a synergy leading to growth.
Thereafter the three groups of students were formed under the supervision of Ms. Minakshi Chaudhry, Ms. Namita Agarwal and Ms. Kanika Rekhi as advised by the Factory Incharge.
  
Students Visited
Shop floor room -  They were explained about the UG software and graphical design of car seat parts here.
Inspection room -  Students were explained about CMC Edm wire and metal to metal cutting through a white fluid which helps to absorb the heat exertion.
Lastly, they were taken to the Final Product Room where the final products were grouped together for transporting. Safety measures taken by the Company were also explained.
The students had an enriching experience about the functional foremanship followed by the Company.
Ms. Minakshi Chaudhary sincerely expressed gratitude on behalf of students and Tagore International School to Mr. H. S. Banga, Mr. Sanjiv Aggarwal (Director Finance), Mr. Raghu (Factory In charge), Mr. Sahil Bhatia and Mr. Manoj Bangia for coordinating the visit.
The visit to Victora Auto Pvt. Ltd, created a wonderful impact on students’ learning process.
Workshop on Stock Market

To make the students of class XI & XII [Commerce Stream] aware about the online share trading and know about the basics of financial & capital market, the school organized a technical session on Stock Market in which various aspects were discussed and explained.
The session was conducted by Mr. Antaryami Kumar, Senior faculty member at prestigious educational institution along with Mr. Manoj Bangia, Practicing Company Secretary, alumni, Tagore International School, EOK.
The session started as soon as the market opened, and students could view the live trading screen. Mr. Antaryami introduced the students to the concept of ‘Candles’ and how they move up and down with growing and falling rates, being the guiding force for entering and exiting a particular scrip. He also made the students aware about Stock and IPO, and how to purchase and sell stocks through online portals. Different stock exchanges and their workings were also explained to them.
Mr. Manoj Bangia shared with the students his experiences with the various Corporate Sectors and also explained to them the correlation between the various external and internal factors affecting the price of its equity share on the Stock Exchange. He also made them aware about the role of Analyst in the whole process pertaining to analyzing the company and predicting the future price of the share.
The students later posed various queries they had, regarding the various aspects of the market and future career prospects, it has to offer. This interactive session was wonderful and enjoyed by each and every student and teacher alike. The students got the golden opportunity to understand the workings of something so dynamic and ever transforming as the market, which increased their knowledge and opened various career opportunities. 
 
Workshop on “Child Abuse and Sexual Violence- Inter Personal and Digital World”

An awareness-cum-sensitization programme was conducted and Ms. Tanvi, Judge at Saket Courts and Secretary, DLSA South East addressed the students.She introduced the topic of sexual abuse through lectures, PPTs, Videos etc. She spoke about different types of abuse like Emotional and Physical abuse. She also talked about stalking, eve teasing and dating violence. The provisions and protections provided to children under the POCSO Act were explained.
Ms. Khurana also warned the students about not disclosing too much information on social media as it leads to cyber bullying and cyber violence. At the end of the programme, students addressed their queries. Overall it was a very informative workshop, in which the children enthusiastically participated.
 Workshop on Story Maps

The speaker for the session Ms. Dipti Chawla, was from an organisation called ESRI, Delhi NCR.  ESRI has an online tool, ArcGIS software, which is used for creating maps. Students were taught how to use this tool. ArcGIS is a geographic information system for working with maps and geographic information. It is used for creating and using maps, compiling geographic data, analyzing mapped information, sharing and discovering geographic information, using maps and geographic information in a range of applications,

 

ALL INDIA ASTEROID SEARCH CAMPAIGN 
All India Asteroid Search Campaign , a unique and exclusive international platform created by SPACE  for Indian students and amateur astronomers across India since 2010.
SPACE  conducts this campaign across India as the coordinator, in association with International Astronomical Search collaboration(IASC, Hardin-Simmons University, Texas, USA).
Under this campaign, participants get exclusive access to images of the sky taken at observatories and analyze the data with specialized software provided during training to look for asteroids. Objects reported by students could be potential discoveries. All observations contribute to the Near Earth Object (NEO) data compiled by NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Students get the exciting opportunity to work with professional astronomers, get access to real astronomy data and are exposed to research in this field, all of which is usually only available to post graduate students.
Aruni Kumar Jha of class IX-D and Kriteesh Madan of class IX-D participated in the programme from July 6 and August 3, 2018 and have successfully made three preliminary discoveries. Preliminary discovery is the first observation of asteroids found in the main belt located between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter.

“Cyber Crime and Cyber Addiction”

For youngsters the internet offers entertaining and informative escape, but too often they forget that online world has the same risk as the real one, hence to spread the awareness towards the safe internet usage, a session was organized for students to enhance their existing knowledge about cyber etiquettes and cyber crime.

The key speaker for the session was Dr. Yatan Pal Singh Balhara, Psychiatrist and Associate Professor in Psychiatric department AIIMS. He is closely associated with a project “Behavioral Addictions Clinic” (BAC) related to “Internet Addiction” among the young generation. He guided students how to prevent and control addiction to internet games and social media. He also highlighted the impact of internet on today’s youth.

Inspector Rajeev Kumar, presently heading District Cyber Cell for the South also addressed the students and provided them valuable information on cyber safety. He discussed various situation and incidents where students need to be cautious.    

“Sexuality Education”

The key speaker for the session was Ms.Jaya Aiyappa. A counsellor, corporate trainer, sexuality educator she is a post- graduate in Social Work from the Delhi School of Social Work. She practices the humanistic and cognitive -behavioural approaches of counselling, enabling people to deal with their various interpersonal, intrapersonal and emotional issues. With more than 2 decades of experience under her belt, she is an expert in her field. Some of the areas she specializes in include marital/relationship counselling, adolescent issues, workplace issues, stress, parenting, premarital, sexuality counselling etc. She has worked extensively with a number of NGO’s where she strengthened her skills in counselling and understanding of human behaviour. As a trainer Ms Aiyappa has conducted workshops for schools, colleges and corporates on a number of topics including life skills, relationships, sexuality, pre-marital awareness, behaviour skills and self-growth.

The session provided the parents a glimpse of the information that was planned to be shared with the students in the following sessions, their queries were answered and they were motivated to discuss various issues with their children.

The sessions were divided and planned according to the classes; the students were shown a power point presentation and their queries were resolved during the session. The students were also briefed about how to protect themselves from any kind of sexual abuse.

Workshop on Disaster Management

Tagore International School East of Kailash in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, hosted a three day workshop from July 25th to July 27th, on Disaster Management for government, government aided, Municipal Co operation Development and private schools of South East District of Delhi. The workshop was inaugurated by SDM, South East Mr Saurav Sharma, who emphasised on the need of disaster preparedeness for schools. District officers Mr. Jugbir Singh and Mr. Ramchandra briefed all participants on the various facets of a disaster and the measures one can take to minimise the loss with a good mitigation plan. The programme was also attended by Additional District Magistrate South East Mr Rajeev Singh Parihar.

The programme saw the stakeholders deliberating and discussing on how to make a better plan to counter a disaster and make schools a safe place for students, teachers and its staff. The District Magistrate South East, Mr Navin S.L. emphasised on the role of schools in this endeavour. He said that schools have the power of training the future of the nation, the students and that it is important for them to educate students and have a robust disaster management plan.

UNESCO, New Delhi in collaboration with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) AND with support of other partners organized a one day conference titled ‘OMG! Promoting Child Safety Online, Empowering Future Digital Citizens’ on June 28th, 2018.  The key objective of the conference was to develop an action plan for interventions related to online child safety in India. The event brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the online child protection space, including Government representatives; representatives from UNESCO, UNICEF and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); legal experts; civil society organizations; and technology companies.

NDIM(New Delhi Institute of Management, Tughlakabad) in association with Canada Research Centre organised an Astronaut  Seminar on May 19, 2018 at their Campus. 

Astronaut trainers Matt Harasymezuk and Dr. Agata Kolodziejezyk conducted the workshop.  From our school Shripat Nepak and Aryan Sharma from Class X and Parth Arora,   Punnya Bhatnagar and Tabassum Fatima from Class XII along with Ms. Punam Sood attended.    

 Some aspects that were covered briefly included Astronaut Training, Designing Human Habitat for Mars and Designing India’s Mars Mission. It also helped to clear the myth that a specialisation in Science stream is Not a pre-requisite to be an Astronaut these days. 

 It was a highly interactive seminar and all present thoroughly enjoyed listening and interacting with the Astronauts.  They were able to gain a better insight into this field and understand the Moon and Mars Habitation Project.

A session was organized by ICRTC in coordination with Tagore International School, East of Kailash for school teachers. There were over 45 teachers from Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar,  50 teachers from more than 10 schools from Delhi NCR, Noida and Gurgaon and 100 teachers from the host school TIS EOK.

Mr. Ravindran based his talk on ‘Guidance Based School Education –  The Emerging Concept’.  It was a   very enriching session which kept the teachers engrossed and on their feet. There was lots of learning with practical examples.

Photography Workshop

Mr. Rohit Suri is a renowned artist, photographer and movie maker.  He was here on Saturday, 5th May 2018 to conduct a photography workshop on the school premises.  Ten students from Classes VII to XII attended the workshop along with some teachers.  The workshop was conducted in an informal atmosphere.  Mr. Suri emphasized the necessity of communication in photography.  Using real life examples and anecdotes he highlighted the role of light, at different times and locations.  He explained how photography involves an understanding of science, art and geography, the importance of visualization and perspective.  Students were advised to read the camera’s user manual thoroughly so they would understand their camera.

Ms. Dimple Madan, Ms. Richa Bhardwaj, Ms. Preeti Chawla and Ms. Jaya Ralhan attended the SKILLD workshop organized by The Global Education and Leadership Foundation at The Sriram School, Aravali.

The session was based on the theme- Introducing Leadership and Entrepreneurship and trained the teachers to conduct the TGelf sessions in their respective classes. The workshop covered various units from the TGelf manual and was highly interactive, activity oriented and informative. Various activities The value based curriculum of the manual re-inforced a global mindsetr among all the participants.

Workshop on Creating Comic Strips that can be used as a Teaching Aid

Ms. Vandana conducted a demo. to show the teachers how they could log into Pixton.Com and create comic strips.  She showed them the different templates they could use , how characters could be added, how backgrounds, colours and expressions could be changed, how text could be added using speech bubbles. Teachers created short cartoon strips and left feeling confident that they could create and use more such strips for their classes.

SALLY RIDE EarthKAM
(Earth Knowledge Acquired by Middle school students) conducted by SPACE

Five students from the Astronomy club participated in the EarthKAM workshop held on Thursday, April 12,2018 at Abhinav Global School, Sector 13 Dwarka, New Delhi .

ISS EarthKAM is an international educational programme of NASA through which school students can select and take stunning, high quality images of Earth from a digital camera mounted at a nadir window in the Destiny lab of the International Space Station (ISS).

The workshop was from 9am to 12noon.It was a unique opportunity for students to control a digital camera on board the International Space Station. Students took photographs of desired location of planet Earth.  The students expressed their gratitude to Principal ma’am for this wonderful opportunity.
