Dear Parents

We have been reiterating the importance of attendance of the students. Still it has been noticed that students are in the habit of taking leave one/two days before the Friday Test. We wish to inform you that if any student takes leave on Wednesday/Thursday before the test without valid reason, 5 marks will be deducted as mentioned in the Year Book.

Unit tests are a part of continuous assessment and if students are regular in their studies they will not feel the need to take days off to prepare for it.

 Classes V & VI

Dear Parent,

Please refer to the Orientation session held on 09 April 2012 during which online individual learning and assessment programme for Science & Maths was discussed, for your child. This programme is beyond the normal school teaching aid systems. The assembled parents were in agreement that we should go ahead with this additional programme.  This programme has been successfully implemented in Class VI last year and we wish to carry it forward.

A number of parents while sharing their experience of the software, expressed  that the use of online multimedia facility has helped to remove phobia of Maths, and made Science & Math more interesting for their children. Moreover, this programme allows students to practice on their own and at their own pace, thus reducing dependency on tuitions. Every child will have his/her own password to access the study material. The class rooms of Classes VI to VIII are being equipped with LCD projectors, e-beams and interactive boards to facilitate e-learning.

We have negotiated with the service provider to make the software available to our students at Rs 80/- per student per month. All parents who did not attend the orientation meeting may kindly check about this programme on the school web-site or get  feed back from other parents. As decided and agreed to, by all the parents present, we wish to collect from you Rs 240/- for the first quarter, specifically for this programme. For subsequent quarters, installments will be charged additionally in the fee bill at the same rate. We request you to fill the consent form and return it to the class teacher by Monday 23 April 2012

Dear Parent,

We, at Tagore International School, believe that the school can play an important role to guide students in the many critical decisions. One such critical decision pertains to post school higher education choices. Univariety is a part of Singapore based ‘International Education Gateway’ and it specializes in the field of college planning and counseling.

On 17th April, 2012, we invited Univariety to make a presentation to the students of Class 12th. The aim of this presentation was to launch a much needed service which will help students’ better plan for post school study options. This new service will help each of our students to identify, approach, prepare for and apply to the most suitable Universities/Colleges within and outside India. This service will be a combination of an online and offline system through which students will participate in a series of workshops conducted in the school by Univariety team and will have access to online counselors along with having access to a rich database of college information (please refer to the attached sheet for details of the service). More information about the programme can be found on the school website.

We received an overwhelming response to the launch presentation.  This service is made available for Class 12th students at a subsidised yearly cost of Rs. 3,500/-. The payment for this service will be directly made to the company.

We respect your right to make a choice. Parents and children who don’t want to participate can choose not to. It is purely voluntary.  On the other hand if you want your child to participate in the programme and

·        Attend College Counseling workshops planned in the school

·        Interact with college planning coaches for the ongoing guidance and

Classes XI & XII

Dear Parents,

At Tagore International School, we recognise the importance of investing in our children. We endeavour to provide high quality education in a supportive environment and aim to equip our students with the tools necessary to succeed in the world.

We recognise that soon your child will be completing school and will start evaluating higher studies options.  For a number of students this evaluation process can be very confusing & strenuous.  This confusion is justified on account of complicated admission processes, highly competitive entrance tests and lack of clarity on which courses to pursue. Over the last couple of years, a large number of students have approached us, requesting the school to assist in navigating through the college planning process.

We want our students to start planning for this process as early as possible. Timely planning will give clarity to our students and help them get an edge in the current hyper competitive environment.  Continuing our tradition of putting the interests of the students first, we now have tied up with ‘Univariety’.  ‘Univariety’ specialises in the field of university planning and higher education counselling.  It is part of Singapore based ‘International Education Gateway’.  Their international team comes with over a decade of experience in providing personalised guidance around which countries, colleges and courses to target for within India and abroad.

Through the Univariety platform, you and your child will have access to a rich college database supported by a team of experienced on-the-ground counsellors.  This well structured program will guide the student and parent starting from class 11th and till the end of class 12th.  The programme will be a combination of online and offline system of supporting the entire university and college assessment process and will be delivered through a series of workshops conducted in school.

We are inviting Univariety to conduct an introductory session so that students and parents can understand and evaluate the service.  This session will be held on 17th April 2012 from 8.15 am to 9.15 am in the school auditorium.  During this session the Univariety services will be described to the students.  Students and parents will be taken through a process which will help them in making correct career and college decision. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and description of the registration process.

I strongly request each of you to attend the introductory session and take the first step towards providing up-to-date guidance to your child.  By providing this essential service, we hope to help our students in taking the correct first step on the journey to realise their true potential.

If the parents are arranging their own private transport for the child to commute, they must ensure that all rules laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court are adhered to and that the vans / vehicles are not over crowded and are safe for the students’ travel.

Private vehicle drivers should be instructed not to drop / pick up the students from across the road,  and  not allow the students to cross the road or send them back & forth to school. This is essential for the safety of your ward.

10.      Students using the school bus will have to travel by the same bus route number. No request in the almanac or a letter will be entertained for permission to allow students to go by another bus route or on his / her own. In case of an emergency the parent must personally come to pick up their ward from the school.

11.         Students are not to absent themselves without prior sanction. The parents must send an absentee note in the Almanac under the ‘Non-Attendance Record’ for sanction of leave. In case of medical leave of more than 3 days, it is mandatory for the student  to submit a medical fitness certificate on joining back failing which the student will be sent back home. Doing so we ensure that the child is medically fit to join the school and also that the student on medical leave is still not carrying any contagious disease that can spread among other students.

12.         Please do not send your ward to school if he / she is not well. Students will not be allowed to attend school or write any examination / test during illness.

13.         Our school is a ‘No Poly Bag’ school. Polythene bags are not permitted inside the school building. The school guard is authorized to stop the entry of any person in possession of polythene bags.

14.      The students are not allowed to bring mobile phones to school.

15.       It is indeed a matter of great pleasure to celebrate the birthday of your ward in our school. While doing so parents may send only toffees for distribution in the classes. We would earnestly request the parents not to send any other gift items or request for any class party on this occasion. The gifts, if sent, shall be returned. We hope that the parents understand this rule as a matter of discipline & appreciate the same.

16.       Parents are not allowed to escort their ward inside the school premises. Please encourage your ward to be independent.

17.       You will receive the School Planner (Year Book) which gives the details of tests/ examination, competitions, activities, the list of holidays of the school and the dates when the Parent Teacher Meetings are scheduled. No separate circulars will be sent regarding the information given in the Year Book.

18.For an update on the activities of the school we release two newsletters and a school magazine in an academic session.

19.   Students of K.G. to V will have school for 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). However, the students of Classes VI to XII will have extra   classes on some Saturdays. The detailed schedule of working Saturdays is mentioned in the year book. Teachers will also hold special coaching/remedial classes for selected students of Classes I-V on working Saturdays.

20.   Outdoor Physical Activity and Performing Art: Classes I-V have compulsory outdoor physical activity & performing arts. Classes VI-VIII have compulsory clubs and performing art classes. The students are offered one activity under each head either by taking the consent of the parents or keeping in mind the calibre / interest of the student.

21.    We celebrate all festivals in the school. It is important that the students are made to understand the significance of the festivals rather than the emphasis on pomp and show of the celebration.  We must respect our traditions and rich heritage but should not distort them in the name of fashion or modernization.  Therefore, applying henna by the students under the pretext of celebrations such as Rakhi, Bhaiduj, Diwali etc. must not be encouraged. Students are not allowed to wear any jewellery and are not allowed to use hair gel. We expect co-operation from all our parents to help us inculcate these values among the students.

22.   Books are our best friends. It is very essential that we inculcate reading habit among the students. You are requested to help us build the class library. It is suggested that you contribute a book towards the class library on the birthday of your ward. These books will be circulated to all students on rotation. Please encourage reading books and the newspaper at home.

23.   Parents are requested to donate old books which may be used to distribute to the students under our very special    ‘Literacy Drive Project’.

24.  We have observed that the students, who come to school empty stomach, often report to the school clinic, complaining of giddiness or headache during assembly. Kindly ensure children have a nutritious breakfast before coming to school and they also must bring mid-day meal with them as food packets brought by parents or anyone else will not be handed over to the students. The school café facility is also extended to the students. Classes I to V are allowed to use the café facility only once a week on fixed days. Students are advised not to bring more than  `40/- to school for cafe’ facility.

25     Please note that Half Day is not permitted to the students. Prior approval must be sought in advance if your ward has to be picked up early due to any reason. In case of any emergency the students may be allowed to leave only if the parents themselves come to school to pick up the student. No student will be allowed to leave school with anyone else.

26     As a part of our continued endeavour to conserve the environment, we will be in future posting all circulars on the website so as to reduce paper usage.

At TIS we are committed to social welfare and shall continue with our efforts of imparting free education to the children of the underprivileged section of society.

Finally, I must once again thank you for your continuous support in all our endeavours and hope the same from our new parents who are joining TIS family from session 2012-2013. We expect similar encouragement to help us in offering the students the most congenial environment so that their learning becomes easy, useful and everlasting.

We will keep in touch with you throughout the year through circulars and notes in the diary.

We Encourage Suggestions from the Parents

With warm regards,
(SUMAN NATH)
