LiFe - Literary Festival

The annual Tagorean Literary Festival ‘ LiFe’, was initiated in 2005, and was the only one of its kind open to Delhi/NCR schools in the early years. It is held in the month of August every year, and has been attracting the best talents from the capital, celebrating the immense potential and talent showcased by our budding youngsters.

‘LiFe’ serves as a platform for our students to hone their latent creative skills, foster individuality, as well as inculcate team spirit. The selection of the theme for the festival changes every year, and is based on the works of famous literary personalities, as well as pertains to social dilemmas, related to contemporary issues and concerns.

The Festival is marked by three events where the participants compete in creative and innovative rounds of poetry and performing arts, drama, designing and collage work. Students are encouraged to think on their own and work independently in preparation for the Festival, with minimum involvement of their teachers.

Burdened with peer pressure, and competition, the aim of the TIS Literary Festival, over and above inculcating interest in reading different genres of Literature, is to ignite sparks of sensitivity in our youngsters, and help them broaden their horizons. Furthermore, it instils in their young mind, an awareness of differences, as well as rebuild an appreciation for nature, beside compassion and empathy for humanity.

LiFe, is an immense source of incentive and encouragement for the growing breed of young talented teenagers and generates a lot of enthusiasm every year.

Virtual Classrooms

Students of Tagore International School, VasantVihar, have been interacting with their Chinese counterparts from Jinyuan High School in Shanghai, through video conferencing and have established virtual classrooms in order to learn from each other. Our early morning Yoga sessions are now held jointly with classrooms in China and vice-versa for calligraphy.

The program is a culmination of a year’s, non-stop effort which began in August 2007 when representatives of TIS, VV travelled to JSHS to discuss potential opportunities for collaboration. With a desire to record their respective intent, an MOU was signed through the video conferencing, witnessed by student and teacher representatives from both the schools. The inaugural was heralded with drum beats by students of each school, followed by the introduction of the respective guests by each school’s host. The movies from each school gave a remarkable insight into their infrastructure, vision and achievements. The Principals of both schools then delivered speeches, introducing what the signing was all about. The Chinese Ambassador, in his speech was highly appreciative of the students effort at friendship and understanding. He also added that they could go on to prove that they are worthy of their respective countries. Instrumental Music performances were exchanged. Student representatives Meghna Sridhar and N. Krishnan expressed their eagerness to interact with their Chinese counterparts through video and web conferencing, collaborate on projects, establish personal relationships and to promote each other’s nation, culture, history, geography and sports. It was indeed a moment of pride for Tagorean.

Lead On! - Leaders Of Tomorrow , Meet Today

The belief that every child is a potential mine of possibilities prompted our Student Cabinet in 2008  to organise an annual summit on Leadership for Head Boys and Head Girls of Delhi schools. The summit, LEAD ON, is an initiative that was then conceptualised and has since received an enthusiastic response from students of leading Delhi and NCR schools. Successfully bringing together future leaders for a decade now, Lead On! aims at bringing together the best young minds in an attempt to inculcate critical leadership skills and provide a common platform  to inspire and be inspired. It comprises a Keynote Speaker’s address, Group Discussions, Presentations, Situational Challenges, and much more. Over the years we have invited celebrities who have made an indelible mark in the progress of India, people who the students identify with and are inspired by. Eminent personalities like Dr Kiran Bedi  (IPS), Mr Pavan Kr Verma (IFS & Author), Mr Shashi Tharoor (M.P), Mr Varun Gandhi (M.P), Ms Agatha Sangma (M.P), Mr Naveen Jindal (M.P), Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar (M.P), Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad (M.P), Ms Smriti Zubin Irani ( Minister of Human Resource Development) and Mr Kirren Rijiju ( Union Minister of State for Home Affairs), have graced the event as keynote speakers in the past years.

In the last ten years, Lead On! has left no stone unturned in making young leaders of today become successful leaders of tomorrow.

The success and efficacy of this event has schools marking it on their annual calendar as something not to be missed.

LEAD ON ! 2019
Leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example. A true leader inspires and works towards cooperation, not intimidation and domination. Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar organised their annual leadership summit, Lead On! 2019, on 22nd October in their school premises. The heads of the student councils of over 40 schools around New Delhi gathered here to participate in activities that were aimed to inculcate qualities of leadership in them, including keynote speeches from two distinct speakers.

Beginning from 8 AM in the morning, the event carried on till 5.30PM in the evening, during which the young future leaders of our country participated in various activities and were given a platform to network and communicate with the heads of their fellow schools' council heads.

The event started with a short icebreaker to get the participants comfortable, which was followed by the main event of the day, 'Biohazard': a 3 hour crisis solving activity. The school heads were divided into teams, and were required to think, negotiate and take roles of leadership among themselves to compete with the other teams to come on top as the best and win the event. This was followed by a challenging but fun and exciting "treasure hunt" around the school, leaving the students exhausted but contented.

The event was graced by the presence of two notable personalities- Mr Salman Khurshid, the Indian politician, designated senior advocate, eminent author and a law teacher, and Mr Mohit Chauhan, the Indian playback singer, most known for his work for Bollywood and Tollywood movies.

In Mr Khurshid's speech, he spoke about his personal experiences with ordinary people like ourselves, the nepotism in the political structure of India, the political parties in India, and also spoke about leadership, saying "A leader is a person who pushes a group forward and solely is not on the front page. A leader is a person who understands others and respect their ideas." The speech was followed by a Q&A session in which the children got an opportunity to interact with Mr Khurshid and ask him their own queries.

Mr Chauhan, on the other hand, had an interactive session with the students in which he spoke about his past and personal life, his music career, the importance of creativity and it's indirect impact on leadership, the current music industry and the changes in it since the 70's, and the importance of classical and folk music over the just the lucrative, 'filmy' songs that we are accustomed to listening. He ended his session with short but beautiful and melodious performances of his famous songs 'Tum Se Hi' and 'Nadaan Parindey'.

These keynote speeches were definitely the highlight of the day. The keynote speeches were mediated by the ace stand-up comedian, Papa CJ, who effortlessly gave the event a spark in a way that no one else could have with his scintillating wit, which carried on among the students long after the end of the event.

The event was very well organised by the student council of Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar and all the participants gave an extremely positive feedback and exuberant praise about their day and the activities.
