To inculcate the values and beliefs of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore is an integral part of education in our school, named as it is for this towering personality , the most outstanding polymath of modern India.

To commemorate Gurudev’s 159th birth anniversary, students were engaged in a variety of activities. And yes, rising to the challenges posed by the lockdown, everything happened online !

Class VI created their own movies on ‘Tagore: An International Figure’. Art students drew different kinds of flowers keeping in mind that  Tagore was a great lover of nature .

Students of Class VII created a  PPT using  the software Sway, focusing on Shantiniketan: An Abode of Peace

They also danced to the song ‘ Mera mann megh ka sangi’   composed by Tagore.

Class VIII made posters depicting Tagore’s Gitanjali. Art students tried to design the kind of robe that Tagore often wore and which he called his ‘al-khalla.’

Class IX students interpreted the poem “Where the Mind is Without Fear” using different modes of expression such as dance, music, poetry recitation, mime, doodling etc, with a few of these going up on the website.

The enthusiastic actors in Class X prepared a play based on the story “The Parrot” written by Tagore. This item would be shown to all classes with a discussion on its theme and relevance.

Selected students  of Class XI recited some of the poems from the English translation of Gitanjali. The  philosophy behind some of these will be discussed subsequently

A presentation (by Sanya Sarin) about the life and work of Gurudev was shown to all the students on 8th May’20 . This focused on Tagore’s amazing oeuvre and his wide range of interests.

Students of class X watched the Hindi Play together online and discussed with their teacher

Costumes Inspired from Tagore’s Outfits

Tagore was very fashion conscious and created a unique fashion of his own. Tagore is one of the greatest writer of all times who not only brought his characters to life through words in his novels and poems, but also sketches to bring them to life. He drew outfits that he imagines his characters would wear. To rekindle his memory and fashion style, students took inspiration from Jobba(a cross between Baku, the long dress from Darjeeling and Kimono from Japan) and designed costumes.
