UKIERI- UK India Education and Research Initiative is a unique programme that aims to improve educational ties between schools in India and UK and primarily targets at bringing together clusters of schools in both countries to forge strategic partnerships and facilitate design and development of joint curriculum projects. Each cluster has 6 Indian Schools and 4 UK Schools under the aegis of the British Council, New Delhi. These clusters are not only in Delhi but are spread across India.

The six Indian Schools comprising our Cluster are-

  1. Tagore International School, East of Kailash
  2. Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar
  3. St. Mary’s School, Safdarjung Enclave
  4. St. Mary’s School, Dwarka
  5. Delhi Police Public School, Safdarjung Enclave
  6. Fr. Agnel School, Gautam Nagar

Our Partner Schools in UK are-

  1. Trawden Forest Community Primary School
  2. Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School
  3. Laneshaw Bridge Primary School
  4. Springfield Community Primary School

Activities-

As a part of UKIERI programme students have become more aware of the culture and festivals of UK. During New Year, Christmas, Easter, Pan Cake Day and Thanksgiving Day etc. Our students have made various attractive Calendars, Cards, Easter Bunnies & Eggs and other decorative items.

Special assemblies have been conducted to make children aware of St George’s Day, Labour Day, Earth day and Literacy Day. To mark St. George’s day children made red roses and a dragon and were explained about its importance in England’s history. May Pole Dance was presented by students of Class VI after Helper’s Day Celebrations. Different coloured ribbons tied to a decorated tall pole were woven into complex patterns by the dancers.

Students did an in depth study on William Shakespeare, Roald Dahl, John Keats and Robinhood. They prepared brochures on their lives and their works. They also put up a play on Robinhood and wrote a character sketch about their favourite characters from Roald Dahl’s books. A critical appreciation of the books was also written.

Students have been given information on climatic conditions of London and Delhi. Students made symbols of England using buttons and rice. They made the following Souvenirs also-

  • Union Flag was painted on Mugs.
  • Paper Tea Cosy with drawings of symbols of England on it.

Students were acquainted with the famous musicians.

Visits under UKIERI Program

Our Principal, Ms. Suman Nath and coordinators of the other cluster schools had visited our Partner Schools in UK during the month of May 2008. The visit was fruitful and it gave an insight into the curriculum planning and activities beyond the realm of school teaching. One of the highlights of the visit was the project on India in which an in depth study of gods and goddesses had been done and the students had enacted a Hindu wedding scene.

Mr. James Eccleston of Laneshaw Bridge Primary School, UK had met our students when he was here to attend an ICT Workshop organised by British Council.

Exchange

Our students have sent Christmas and New Year Cards to our Partner School, Trawden Forest Primary School, UK. During the visit our principal presented ethnic Indian handicraft items and Calendars made by the students to all the Partner schools in UK. A set of books by Rabindra Nath Tagore and cards painted by our students were also presented by her to the students of Trawden Forest Community School.
