The practice of yoga focuses on bringing harmony between the mind and body. It is a holistic and integral science, dealing with the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of an individual and society. It has long been established that yoga has many benefits for adults and children.
In TIS, we start our class with explaining benefits of yoga. Thereafter warm up exercises like neck rotation, stretching exercises etc are done. This is followed by Surya Namaskar that helps them to improve their strength, flexibility, and overall balance. Next various asans are practiced like Mandook asana, Hal asana, Chakra asana, Noka asana, Bhujang asana, Natraj asana, Shashank asana, Pashimotaan asana, Gaumukh asana and many more. Health benefits of few of them are-
- Tadasana or Mountain Pose that helps to improve posture, alignment, and balance.
- Bakaasna- Strengthens the arms and the shoulders, improves co-ordination with mind, body and breath for better balance.
- Chakrasana or Urdhva Dhanurasana -Strengthen the chest and shoulder muscles, as well as the hip and spinal cord.
The last leg of the session is devoted to meditation where in breathing exercises like Kapal bhati, Anulom vilom, Om chanting are done.
Annual sports day also has a special yoga performance wherein students perform various asanas like bakasan head stand etc and also make Pyramids with bridge pose, Lotus flower with Uttanpaadh aasan and etc.
With the regular practice of yoga, students cultivate a resilient and resourceful body, mind, and spirit. They can regulate their emotions, reduce stress levels, and become more present and more relaxed.
