Dear Parent

The city of Delhi has a long and glorious history and a vibrant culture. Citizens of Delhi live in a pluralistic society which has amalgamated its new and old elements in its right spirit. But very often, century old buildings go unnoticed as the modern architecture tends to overshadow the older areas of the city.

Our school has joined hands with Itihaas, a trust run by a group of committed people who take school children on heritage walks across the city. The students see places that played a part in Delhi’s political and cultural history, listen to stories about them and meet with people who bring that history alive.

We need to famillarize our students with our heritage and with this objective we are organizing the heritage walk for students of Classes VI to VIII, as per the schedule given. The cost mentioned is the fee per student for each walk, which will include the cost of the tickets & professional guidance. The walk will be conducted during school hours.

Dear Parent

As per CBSE guidelines, each student in Classes VI to VIII is required to study THREE languages.  English is the first language and is compulsory for all. Hindi is the second language and is compulsory for Indian students. However, the nationals of other countries are exempted from studying Hindi.

The school offers German, French and Sanskrit as options for the third language in Class VI (2020-2021).  All students have to opt for any ONE of the three.  They have to be certain of their choice as they have to study the same language for the next three years and no change at a later date or class will be possible.  A student will require to score a minimum of D grade in the final assessment of the third language to be eligible to be promoted to the next class.

Since, there are limited seats in the German and French sections, the students will be allowed to opt for German or French on the basis of their grades in English in Class V. The student has to score a minimum of A2 in each area of English assessment and A1 in conversation and text in ALL THREE TERMS in Class V.

You are requested to state your order of preference for the third language in the acknowledgement given below and submit it to the class teacher by Monday, 03 February 2020.

Dear Parent

To develop a scientific acumen at a young age, the school plans to introduce PAPER ROBOTICS for Classes IV & V.  Paper Robotics is learning robotics, using paper.  The students learn to move things using basic movement mechanisms like CAM, CRANK and GEAR.  By learning the basics of the movement of mechanisms, the concept can be applied in real life scenarios.  Anyone who is able to use a scissor, cut, fold and paste paper, can learn paper robotics.

Basic level course will be imparted in the school premises.  The level will be learnt through a book graded to teach CAM, mechanisms and its applications.  A 3 day workshop will be conducted.  Two models will be made during the workshop.  As home assignment, students will be expected to make the models given in the book.  A course fee `1000/- should be submitted to the class teacher by Monday, 23 December 2019.  The schedule of the workshops will be shared after firming up the final numbers.

Dear Parent

As our students stand on the threshold of making the first choice related to their professional lives, it becomes imperative on part of parents and school to help them make informed choices. The world today has gone far beyond the clichéd professions and the students are ready to explore exciting options for themselves. At this point, awareness regarding career paths, choice of subjects/stream and aptitude is of primary importance.

Keeping this in mind, the school is organizing an exclusive session on “Choice of Streams and Careers” on Tuesday, 22 October 2019 for students of Classes IX and X and their parents from 8:00 am-9:00 am in the School auditorium.

The session will be devoted to understanding the following points;

  • Importance of choosing the right stream
  • Role of parents in the stream selection
  • Career prospects of each stream
  • Conventional and Modern Careers
  • Planning a Career
  • What’s the latest that the industry has to offer as ‘out of the box’ career choices

We would appreciate your presence during the session to help your ward take this crucial decision which will chart his professional growth in the future. Kindly send the dully filled consent latest by Monday, 21 October 2019.

There will also be a Career Assessment by Extramarks in case you would like to enrol your ward for the same.

Dear Parent

It is an acknowledged fact that parents play an important role in a child's life and certainly the 21st century generation presents particular parenting challenges. Promoting child development through parental training is one thing that we at Tagore International School, East of Kailash, believe in and work for. Keeping this is in mind we plan to conduct an informative session for all parents whose ward is studying in classes I to V on ‘Positive Parenting’ on Saturday, 12 October 2019 at 9.00 am. This session will be led by Dr. Roma Kumar, a Senior Consultant at the Institute of Child Health at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and at Max Hospital, Gurgaon.  We invite all parents to participate in this session and be enriched with positive parenting tools. Dear Parent

Our students, as part of their curriculum, are studying about the heritage sites and monuments built during Mughal era. The Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world has stood the test of time by standing tall and graceful and telling its story to generations that throng to see its beauty. Agra Fort also stands testimony to the functioning of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty until 1638.

It has been our endeavour to provide our students with the finest experiential learning opportunities and to provide them a first hand experience of these monuments, the school is organizing a day long trip to Agra on 01 October 2019.

Participation fee for the trip is ₹1900/- which includes travel by comfortable luxury buses, all meals and entry tickets to the monuments, travel insurance and charges for professional guides.

If you are interested in sending your ward for this experiential learning trip, kindly send the participation fee along with the consent latest by 18 September 2019. A detailed itinerary will be shared once you register for the programme.

The play is being staged by History Diaries, co-founded by IIT Delhi alumni. 'History Diaries' is an initiative to bring history alive and to transform the way it is taught in the classrooms. The times, incidences, and the lives of people in history are recreated through various creative techniques such as theater and historical discussions among others. With the students having studied Nationalist Movement in India as part of their curriculum, it will be an enriching experience seeing parts of it being presented before the students.

The registration fee for watching the show is ₹175/-. If you are interested in your ward participating in the programme, kindly send the duly filled consent form and the registration fee to the Class teacher latest by Thursday, 12 September 2019.

Dear Parent

The characterization of adolescence as a time of “storm and stress” remains an open debate. Intense and frequent negative influences during this period have been hypothesized to explain the increased rates of affective disorders behavioral issues, suicide, and accidental deaths during this time of life. Yet some teens emerge from adolescence with minimal turmoil.

The school had organized a session for parents on ‘Understanding why Adolescent behave the way they do’ on Saturday, 03 August 2019. We had an overwhelming response from parents and the feedback has prompted us to organize the session once again on Saturday, 31 August 2019 at 9:00 am in the School Auditorium. This workshop aims to apprise the parents about the problems students might go through and the various ways to deal with them. It provides an opportunity to gain evidence-based knowledge, receive awareness and support. The topics that will be addressed in this session are:

  • · Decision making · Substance abuse · Sexuality Education

We request you to be seated in the school auditorium by 8:45 am and keep your mobile phones in silent mode. Please fill up the duly filled consent and send it to the class teacher on 29 August 2019.

Dear Parent

Adolescence is the phase of transition from childhood to adulthood and this phase brings in noticeable behavioural changes in children. Psychosocial disorders are more common during adolescence than during childhood, and many unhealthy behaviours begin during adolescence causing disruptive behaviour which may get escalated to bigger issues during adult life. Having an eating disorder, poor diet, obesity, smoking, using drugs, and violent behaviour can lead to acute health problems, chronic disorders, or morbidity later in life. Pressure from peer group becomes a gnawing issue for the parents to handle. Adolescent students who lack strong social skills often struggle to stay afloat and may resort to extreme behaviours.

It becomes imperative for the parents to know skill sets to equip them to handle their children who are at a delicate juncture of their lives. Therefore the school is organising a workshop on 3 August 2019 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am on the topic ‘Understanding Adolescents’. This workshop aims to apprise the parents about the problems students might go through and the various ways to deal with them. It provides an opportunity to gain evidence-based knowledge, receive awareness and support. The topics that will be addressed in this session are:

  • Bullying
  • Self - harm
  • Suicide
  • Substance abuse

We request you to be seated in the school auditorium by 8:15 am and keep your mobile phones in silent mode.  Please fill up the duly filled consent and send it to the class teacher on 02 August 2019.

  • The exchange focuses on building knowledge about politics, diplomacy, governance, education, arts and culture of the visiting country by setting up meetings with the Government officials in both the nations, visits to the State Assembly (in Malaysia) and to the Parliament (in Singapore), visit a school for peer-to-peer engagement, visit a University in Singapore.
  • 6-8 International certificate and award of recognition for all the participants endorsed by host government/agencies.
  • Recognition and Interaction from Commonwealth Youth Council & Commonwealth Students Association (Voice of Youth from 53 countries and 1.2 billion young people), Commonwealth Youth Sports for Development and Peace Network.
  • Further networking opportunities and mentoring beyond the programme.

Tentative Schedule is as follows:

Dear Parent

We experience an outbreak of Dengue/Chikungunya/other infectious diseases during monsoons every year. All of us are vulnerable and we would like to keep the children as safe as we can, especially during the time they spend in school.

It is our constant endeavor to keep the school premises as free of mosquitoes as possible by regularly spraying the school building . We also have been creating an awareness regarding the causes, symptoms and prevention of these diseases through assembly talks, board displays, power point presentations and class discussions. We would appreciate your co-operation in making this campaign a success so that we ensure safety of our children from these infectious diseases which may pose a serious threat to the good health of our children.

Advisory for parent:

  • Send your ward to school in full sleeves uniform- shirt with trousers (girls can also wear trousers).
  • Protect your ward from mosquito bite by applying insect repellent on the exposed part of the body.
  • Wash hands properly with soap and water before consuming food.
  • Check the expiry date of all packed eatables/drinks before eating.
  • Consume plenty of water and fluids before stepping out in the heat.
  • Avoid consumption of water, milkshakes, fruit juices, chaat and food material from roadside vendors.
  • Use mesh doors/windows, mosquito coils, vapour mats, bed nets etc. to keep mosquito away.
  • Ensure that there is no water logging on the roof top, in the ground areas around the buildings and there is no broken furniture in open space.
  • Don’t leave water in desert cooler when not in use.
  • Don’t store water uncovered or in not properly covered containers/ tanks.
  • Don’t let water collect in any containers which are kept open like earthenware, pots, bottles etc. Standing water is a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Change water in flower vases once in a day.
  • Don’t send your ward to school if he/she is sick.

As always, the safety of the children is a priority and we do hope that these measures will help to keep the children safe & healthy.

July 2019

The school is organizing a series of workshops for students of Classes VI to IX in association with SPACE organization. This is to enable students to learn new concepts of Astronomy and Space Sciences through various activities. The details of the workshops are as follows:

DAY & DATE

HANDS ON WORKSHOP

TIME DURATION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Saturday

03.08.2019

The Science Of Light

90 minutes

(During school timings in the school campus)

The Light is so much blended in our lives that we hardly pay any attention to it. We don’t realize that the world around us is a mere exhibition of the science of light. In this workshop, students discover this by experimenting with the behavior of light using innovative teaching aids, including unbreakable lenses, mirrors, prisms and slabs. They get introduced to the complexities of optics and fiber optics with an easy and simple approach.

Saturday

07.09.2019

Astro-photography for Beginners

90 minutes

(During school timings in the school campus)

Photography is one of the most interesting activities that everybody loves. Most of the pictures that we take in the daytime is just by pressing a button and we do not actually need to understand the working of a camera to take these pictures. But if we talk about capturing the beautiful night sky, this cannot be done by simple Digicams or mobile phone cameras that are easy to use. For this we need special cameras called the DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera. In this workshop, students will be introduced with the DSLR and will learn its working and controls.

Saturday

12.10.2019

CELESTIAL COORDINATE SYSTEMS

90 minutes

(During school timings in the school campus)

In this workshop, students will learn the importance of reference points and grid system on Earth i.e. Latitudes and Longitudes. Students will come across the celestial coordinate system, its structure and identification of coordinates of objects in the sky and will make one complete sky map. This would require them to understand celestial globes to find stars with the help of celestial coordinates or find the coordinates of various stars.

Will be intimated later

CAPTURING CELESTIAL OBJECTS

150 minutes

(During evening in the school campus)

Students will be introduced to various techniques and types of astrophotography. They will click the rising constellations, moon and planets available in the sky and will learn to process them by using various software and techniques.

  • The cost for the four workshops is 2200/-. It is mandatory that participating students attend all four workshops.
  • At the end of each workshop, a take away kit will be provided to the students. A certificate of participation will be awarded to each participant at the end of all four workshops.
  • The parents will have to make their own arrangements to pick up and drop their ward on these days. School transport will not be available.
  • Interested parents must submit the consent duly filled in, along with the amount latest by Thursday, 01 August 2019.

The Magic of Light

90 minutes

(During school timings in the school campus)

Humans are creatures of light. Light is vitally important to us. Children are encountered with questions like: Why can’t we see in the dark? Why leaves are green and mud is brown? Why some objects form shadows while others don’t? This workshop enables every child to find answers to each of these by observation and experimentation. The child learns that light binds the whole universe. The activities in the workshop help children to form a strong base about optics studied in higher classes and help them to practically understand that light plays an important role in our everyday life.

Dear Parent

Adolescence is a phase when the body is on an overdrive in terms of hormonal changes. In this age of information technology, students have access to information on a click of a button but they do not have the skills to sift the information and understand it in the right context. This has resulted in them misinterpreting most of the information available online, which in the long run affects them mentally and emotionally. To help students cope with the changes pertaining to their physical, social and emotional well being, as well as changes in their immediate environment, various workshops are organized for students. One such session is on sexuality education, for students of Classes VI, VIII & XI in the month of July.

As a continuation, we believe that parents are potentially an important source of information and support to their children on sexual issues, but in practice many parents feel that they lack the skills and confidence to play a direct role in these matters. Keeping this in mind, the school is organising a sexuality education workshop for parents of Classes VI to VIII on Saturday, 20th July 2019 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. The focus of the workshop will be to apprise parents of the effects of changing physical appearance on the psychology of the child; and will help them engage in a comfortable discussion with their ward on sexuality related issues. Trained professionals from the field of social work, who have done similar sessions for students too, will conduct the workshop. If you are interested in attending this session, please send the consent slip latest by Tuesday, 16 July 2019. Kindly do not bring your children for the workshop as the workshop is an endeavor towards parents’ orientation on issues related to sexuality.

Dear Parent

  • We sincerely hope that your ward has settled in the stream and subject(s) opted by her/him. It has been noticed that some students of Class XI request for change of stream/subject after the Half Yearly examinations. We would like to inform you that as per CBSE Examination bye- laws, a student has to study the same subject for two years (XI & XII) and therefore cannot change either the subject or the stream  in Class XII.

In case your ward wants to change the subject or stream (subject to availability of the seats in the same), she/he should do so before Wednesday, 31 July 2019. After this, NO CHANGE IN SUBJECT OR STREAM WILL BE ENTERTAINED either in Class XI or later in Class XII. Kindly make a note of this and ensure that your ward works hard in the chosen subjects and stream to avoid the need for a change in the future.

  • It has also been observed that there is a drastic drop in students’ academic performance in Class XI. Students tend to take academics lightly in Class XI which not only affects their grades in XI, but it also has an impact on their Class XII result. In case your ward is planning to go abroad for her/his higher studies, we would like to inform you that colleges require the mark sheet of Class XI along with all internal and external examinations of Class XII. We would advise you to guide your ward about the importance of academic grades of Class XI so that your ward does not have to face disappointment at the end of the session.
  • In case your ward wants to opt for a sixth subject, she/he will have to study the subject on her/his own. They will have to appear for the Mid Term and the End Term examination and secure a minimum of 33% marks (separately in theory and practicals) to be eligible to continue with the subject in Class XII. However, it will not have any bearing on her/his promotion to Class XII and neither can be considered in case she/he fails to secure minimum 33% in one of the main five subjects.

The conditions for a student to be eligible to be promoted to class XII are as follows:

  1. In order to be declared as having passed Class XI Examination, a student MUST obtain a minimum of 33% marks in each of the five subjects.
  2. In case of subjects with practical component, the student must obtain 33% marks in theory and 33% in practical separately in addition to 33% marks in aggregate in order to qualify in that subject.
  3. It is mandatory for a student to pass in English for promotion to the next class. If she/he scores less than 33% in English, she/he will be detained in Class XI.
  4. If a student scores less than 33% in one subject, it will be considered as compartment. The student will have to write the compartment exam within two weeks of declaration of the result and score above 33% for promotion to the next class.
  5. If a student scores less than 33% in two or more subjects, she/he will be detained in Class XI. NO REQUEST FOR PROMOTION ON CONDITIONAL BASIS WILL BE ENTERTAINED. ALSO NO CHANGE OF SUBJECT WILL BE PERMITTED IN CLASS XII.

NO LENIENCY WILL BE SHOWN TOWARDS ANY CHILD FOR PROMOTION TO CLASS XII.

  • To explain the academic pattern for Class XI, school is organizing an orientation programme for parents and students of Class XI on Saturday, 20 July 2019 at 9:00 am in the school auditorium. It is compulsory for parents and students to attend the same. Kindly be punctual as the orientation session will begin on time.

Dear Parent

As we look forward to the long awaited summer vacation, it is the time of the year when lots of plans are made and there is excitement in the air. In our busy schedules, this period looks like a time for bonhomie- trips are planned, a long overdue stay at grand parents' place is worked out, extended families meet, etc.

Some things that your wards can indulge in, apart from the ones that you have already chalked out, are: seeing the Sun in all its glory at sunrise, refreshing morning walks, playing in the open with friends which may mean sweating out a bit, cultivating a long cherished hobby, going on cycling expedition with you, watching the IPL matches together or anything else that was in suspended animation due to your ward's preoccupation with School.

We advise that you take your ward to an old age home, make him/her plant saplings in the neighbourhood & nurture the young plants, bond with the helpers' children, engage in teaching them or simply help you in doing household chores. Every activity will be a learning for them – learning beyond the class room. Do train your students to record evidences of the good deeds that they do. A good portfolio can boast of the same.

For learning what the School teaches, we attach the Holiday activities that have been devised by the teachers to provide an opportunity to hone their creativity and go wild with their imagination.

Let the students do the vacation home activities as a pleasure and not a burden. Your guidance will be of immense help. Chart their routine and let them work on a regular basis, instead of being in a rush to complete it in the last few days before the vacation ends.

The summer vacation for your ward starts from Monday, 13 May 2019 and the school will reopen on Tuesday, 02 July 2019.

The School wishes this period to be a time for relaxation, enjoyment and camaraderie.

Wishing you and your ward a very fruitful vacation ahead!
