‘Sur Sangam’ Solo Singing Competition for the Students of Class I - July 2020

‘Sur Sangam’ an intra-class solo singing competition was held for Class I in the month of July. Students dressed up in colourful costumes for recording their songs. They sang a variety of songs both in Hindi and English. They presented songs from genres including bhajans, ghazals, patriotic songs etc. The students showcased their singing skills with beautiful expressions. Some students used background music to add effect to their singing. The presentations sent by the students were not only entertaining but also gave the feeling that these young Tagoreans cannot be bogged down by lockdown.

Solo Western Dance Competition for the Students of Class II was held in the month July 2020

With the aim of appreciating the physical fitness, sense of rhythm and creativity of the students an intra class solo western dance competition was organized for the students of class II in the month of July 2020. The competition was open for all the students however, participation was optional.

The students participated enthusiastically and confidently presented various dance styles like contemporary, freestyle, break dance, hip hop, locking & popping.  Two and a half minute videos were recorded and sent to the teachers. The students not only performed various dance forms but confidently used props to creatively present themselves. The competition showcased excellent presentations and variety of talent.

‘Eloquence’ Competition for the Students of Class III - July 2020

Elocution is one of the activities that gives students creative room to express what they feel. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gain through this is simply unparalleled.

Online elocution competition was held for class 3 on 20th July 2020. The topics provided were-   

  • My favourite cartoon character
  • Happiness is……
  • If I could turn back time

All participants exhibited great oratorical skills, they put in tremendous hard work to showcase their hidden talent. Students participated wholeheartedly with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. Heartfelt congratulations to the winners on their hard-earned success. In all the event was a great success.

"Recitare"-An English Poem Recitation Competition for the Students of Class IV was held on 25 July 2020

‘Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.’ 


Poetry Recitation is a mode of expression, a medium that develops communication skills, increases vocabulary and boosts self-confidence. 

To enable our students to develop and hone these skills, Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar organised ‘Recitare’- an intra- class online English poetry recitation competition on 25 July 2020. 

A preliminary round for the competition was conducted on 20 July ‘20 and a total of 17 students were selected for the final round. 

The theme for the poetry recitation was ‘Happiness’.

The students enthusiastically participated in the competition as they got an opportunity to exhibit their talent and confidence. Many students recited the poems composed by themselves. It was heart-warming to see amazing performances which indeed was a result of hours of practice. The colourful props used by the participants made their presentations vibrant and a happy atmosphere was created by their enthusiasm.

The judges appreciated the performances and gave their valuable insights.

What a beautiful day it had been to express happiness through words, actions & beautiful thoughts with all smiles & confidence!

Ad-Mad Competition for the Students of Class V was held on 25 July 2020

Creative expression is the new currency”

Advertisements use very few words, musical impact, taglines etc to sell an idea. Ad-mad competition was organized to provide platform to showcase the language, communication skills, salesmanship and sense of humour of our budding artists.

The Google meet was buzzing with great zeal and excitement on Saturday, 25th July 2020 for the online Intraclass competition for Class 5. The event was attended by students, teachers, judges from team Awaam-  Saburi Chopra and Shayan Basu.

The competition was conducted in two rounds. First, the preliminary round was on 20th April, where in the students sent pre-recorded video of an advertisement of the categories given-

  • Fashion
  • Toiletries
  • Mobile phones
  • Food

Students participated in large numbers and participated enthusiastically in the first round. Best six were chosen from each section for the final round.

The final round was held on 25th July,2020. It was overwhelming to see the participants adapt to the online method easily. They faced the camera with confidence, understood the instructions given by the teacher and followed them, presented themselves with the same zest and enthusiasm that they would in a classroom or school auditorium.

The criteria for the judgement were – Content of the advertisement, clarity in highlighting the product with minimum efforts, originality and creativity, humour and overall presentation. The judges gave their valuable inputs to the students, Saburi Chopra and Shayan Basu shared their experience of theatre and performances as primary students.  Shruti Sharma, the Headmistress took the opportunity to thank the students, parents, judges and the teachers for their time and effort.

The combined efforts of the students and the teachers was evident as the online intraclass competition was a huge success.

An intra class instrumental music competition was organized for the students of classes VI-VIII. They had to submit their entry, playing either guitar or synthesizer and capture it in a video. They could play any piece from the western styles of music, regardless of the genre (Pop, Rock, Western Classical, Broadway, Show Tunes, etc.).No pre-recorded background track was allowed.

Intra Class ‘Little Artists’ Competition for class I on 18 May 2020

Intra Class “Little Artists’ Competition for class I was held on 18 May 2020 to encourage the creative skills of the students. It was open to all the students and they were asked to draw on any one of the given themes:

           (i) Happiness

           (ii) This beautiful world

           (iii) My spacecraft

The students participated with great enthusiasm and they presented their thoughts on the given topics beautifully. It was very interesting to see how the students used the mediums like pencil colours and crayons very innovatively to create different effects on their sheets. Their prompt responses proved that distance learning was not at all a barrier.

Intra Class ‘Show and Tell’ Competition for class II
‘Show and Tell’ an Intra Class Competition was organized for the students of class II in the month of May 2020. The topic on which the students were to speak was ‘My favourite healthy food’. Students enthusiastically participated in the large numbers. Two minute videos were recorded and sent to the teachers. They not only spoke confidently on the given topic but also prepared props to creatively present themselves. They spoke about eating healthy food and even shared recipes about making healthy dishes. The competition showcased excellent presentations and variety of talent.

Twisted Tales -  A virtual intra-class storytelling competition was organized for class VII on 02 May 2020
A unique, virtual intra-class storytelling competition ‘Twisted Tales’ was organized on 02 May 2020 for the students of class VII. The competition entailed retelling age-old fairy tales, but customized and given a twist to fit into the present scenario. The characters and initial details of the original stories remained the same; the latter halves were imaginative and innovative. The participants presented stories like Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White and Seven Dwarfs etc with such imagination and creativity that it left the judges and the audience enthralled. The stories with characters from these fairy tales taking on roles of modern-day doctors fighting the Corona Virus pandemic seemed extremely convincing. The law enforcers and other Covid-19 warriors came alive through the expression and conviction with which the stories were presented. The competition was a novel one, being conducted for the first time on a digital platform, but the enthusiasm and zest with which the participants participated was the same as it is always with Tagoreans.

Just A Minute -  A virtual intra-class competition was organized for class VIII on 02 May 2020

The first-ever virtual intra-class competition J-A-M (Just a Minute) was organised for the students of class VIII on 2 May 2020, notwithstanding the lockdown. It provided a platform for the students to showcase their talent and expertise in an impromptu speech. The participants had to speak on a given topic for a minute, without hesitation, repetition or deviation.  What made the competition even more challenging was that the topic was given to each participant just 2 minutes before the commencement of their speech, in which time they had to assimilate their ideas. This encouraged students to think on their feet.

The panel of judges included ex-students Sandeep Farooq and V. Chaitanya, and Prarthana of class XII. The virtual audiences were the parents and the teachers teaching class VIII. Ms Nidhi Sood Ma’am was the timekeeper for the event. All the fifteen contestants were eloquent and displayed the presence of mind and their command over the language, within the span of one minute. The topics were as varied as ‘The earth healing during the Lockdown’, ‘A sense of humour ...an essential life skill’,‘Failing is a blessing in disguise, ‘Should tablets replace books in our school bags’ and ‘Something I have learnt during the lockdown.’

The Principal, Ms Nikita Tomar Ma’am expressed her appreciation for the courage and confidence each participant displayed. She also had a word of praise for the parents who motivated their wards to participate in such events. She advised the students to be more conversant in the language by making English their medium of everyday communication and also to work on correct pronunciation.

Online English Elocution Competition was conducted for class IV on 01 May 2020

“As Human Beings we do change grow, adapt, perhaps even learn and become wiser”

The Google meet was buzzing with great zeal and excitement on Friday, 1st May 2020 for the first online Intra-class competition for Class 4. The event was attended by students, teachers, judges Ms Rima Pant ,  Ms. Madhu Pathania and also Arsh Mishra, President of the quiz  club  and an active member of the debate club of the school.

The competition was conducted in two rounds. First, the preliminary round was on 27th April, wherein the students sent pre-recorded video of the given topics. The topics given were:

 1. If you could have one super power, what would it be.

2. I am happy when….

3. Let me tell you about my imaginary friend

4. My favourite thing about going to school

Students participated enthusiastically in the first round. Best six were chosen from each section for the final round.

The final round was held on Friday, 1st May 2020. It was overwhelming to see the participants adapt to the online method very easily. They faced the camera with confidence, understood the instructions given by the teacher and presented themselves with the same zest and enthusiasm that they would in a classroom or school auditorium.

The criteria for the judgement were Quality of content; Delivery; Diction; Vocabulary and impact and Time limit. The judges gave their valuable inputs to the students, Arsh Mishra shared his experience of public speaking as a student.

The combined efforts of the students and the teachers was evident as the first online intra-class competition was a huge success.

Online English Elocution Competition was conducted for class V on 30 April 2020

In a first of its kind attempt an ‘Online English Elocution Competition’ for Class V was conducted on Thursday, 30 April 2020. The event was conducted to promote spoken English skills like pronunciation, delivery and voice modulation.

A preliminary round of the event was conducted on 27 April 2020 to shortlist the finalists. This round received an astounding response from the students.

The online event was organised on Google Meet and was judged by a panel of three: Senior English teachers Ms.Ronita, Ms.Neetu Khanna and School Debate Club student representative Master Syed Sameed Anwar.

The participants had to speak on any one of the following topics:

  • A much-needed invention.
  • Does advertising influence our choice of food?
  • If I was born a 100 years ago, I would be…
  • The planet I would visit if I had my own space ship.

Each contestant was given two minutes and twenty seconds to speak on the topic. The students spoke with confidence and performed exceptionally well considering today’s unique circumstances. Their performance and enthusiasm were well appreciated by the judges, teachers and the audience alike. The competition accorded encouragement and confidence to the performers and to all the students present as audience.

The winners were judged on the quality of content, delivery, diction, vocabulary and impact of the speech.

The confidence, expression and talent of the students made the online event truly memorable.

'Computer Prowess' competition was held from 29 January to 05 February 2020 for Classes III to V

Computer Prowess competition for the students of Classes III to V was held from 29 January to 05 February 2020. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. Students of class III had to write an animated story using Scratch software on the topic “Annie saves Smiley“. Students of class IV had to design a presentation on topic “Say NO to Plastics”. Students of class V had to create a poster on “City of my dreams” using Inkscape software or Microsoft Publisher. The judges were left spellbound by the imagination and creativity of the students.

'Newtonium ( Old ideas recreated)' competition was held for class IV on 31 January 2020

Intra class competition for the month of January was held on 31 January 2020. The participants work in teams of 2 or 3 to make a working model using waste materials. Children dealt with the problems of water shortage, energy conservation and created a model to showcase the cause or solution. The first round was discussion of ideas and team which Presented better idea were selected. For the final round, the teams were given 90 minutes to make the working model. The criteria was 80% waste material and it should be based on a relevant scientific concept. Students were discouraged to use non biodegradable materials. Each model should bear a chapter. The judges then allowed a minute presentation of each model. The students were judged on originality, creativity, relevant scientific concept, oratory skills and collaboratory powers.

'Math Wizard (Quiz)' competition was held for class II on 27 January 2020

Maths quiz was conducted on 27th January 2020. The preliminary round of the competition for class II was held in the class and 6 students were selected from each section. Different rounds were conducted to test the mathematical and logical skills of the students. All the participants as well as the the non-participants showed great enthusiasm during the competition. The efforts of the participants were appreciated by the teachers.

'Point of view ( English Elocution)' Competition was held for class III on the topic 'what it means to be free for me' on 27 January 2020
Intra class competition for the month of January was held on 27th January. The topic given was- 'What it means To be free for me'.
Five finalist from each class were chosen after a preliminary round. They had to present their views on the topic in a time limit of 2 minutes. They were judged on the basis of clarity, fluency, voice modulation and content of their level.

"Math Genius (Quiz)" competition was held for class I on 23 January 2020
Intra class Math Genius competition was held on 23 January 2020.
Preliminary round was held in each section where students attempted on mental Agility. Based on the results of the preliminary round, 6 students from each section were selected for the Math Genius quiz. 6 rounds were held during the quiz to test the mental agility, concepts, logical thinking & problem solving skills. Students answered the question after discussion with their team members. It was amazing to see how students solved the problems correctly and showcased their Conceptual skills, team work & problem solving ability.

Intra class competition Hasya Kavi Sammelan was conducted for the month of January 2020. 
Participants presented Hindi poem with Humour and contents suiting their great level. The criteria for judgement being relevance, creativity, humour, presentation.

"Colours of Life"  Drawing Competition was held for class II on 28 November 2019

'Colours of Life' drawing competition was held on 28 November 2019. The competition was open to all students and the topic was 'Rangoli Designs'. The students used poster colours, crayons, pencil colours and various types of decorations to enhance their work. The involvement, creativity and enthusiasm of the students was praiseworthy.

"Matherun (Math Relay)" competition was held for class V on 28 November 2019
Intra class competition Matherun was held for the month of November. The competition was conducted in two rounds- a preliminary round in the second week of the month and later the final round was conducted on 28 November 2019. The first round was a pen paper Crossword Puzzle which was time bound and open for all students. Ten students from each class were selected on the basis of speed, mental computation and critical thinking skills having the maximum correct responses. The finalists then competed with each other in a relay race crossing 5 hurdles as a team to solve and depict the final solution of a given question. The rounds tested students on their problem solving skills, communication skills and time management.

"Math-O- Fun" quiz competition was held for class III on 27 November 2019
"Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practise."

Keeping this thought in mind, an Intraclass Maths Quiz "Math-O-Fun" was conducted for Class III. Various questions based on different aspects of the subject were asked. Students displayed their  best computational abilities while answering the questions in different rounds of the quiz. It provided an opportunity for the participants as well as the non participants to explore the world of Maths and Reasoning.

"Math-O-Mania (Quiz)" Competition was held for class IV on 27 November 2019

Inter class Math-O-Mania was held on 27 November 2019. The quiz comprised of 5 rounds- Warm up Round, Buzzer Round , Double Trouble, Cube -O-Mania and Rapid fire Round . The students participated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The preliminary round was conducted in the class which was open for all the students. Top 16 students was elected and four teams, of four students each, were finalized. The competition helped students improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills.

"Computer Prowess"- Computer competition for the students of Class I & II was held on 21 November and 26 November 2019 respectively

Computer competition for the students of Class I & II was held on 21 November and 26 November 2019 respectively. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. Students of class I had to design “Book Covers” using tools of Paint. Students designed beautiful book covers like The Gingerbread Man, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Three Little Pigs etc. Students of class II had to design a presentation on the topic “Food habits in Animals”. The judges were left spellbound by the imagination and creativity of the students.

Origami competition was held on 22nd November 2019. The competition was open to all and the theme was "My Favourite Object". The students showcased their creativity by folding the colourful sheets into various objects like pencil boxes, jewellery boxes, houses, boats etc. They also created living things like flowers, frogs and butterflies. Their enthusiasm and imagination was appreciated by one and all.

"Jugalbandi [Group singing]" competition was held for class IV on 31st October 2019
Intra-class Jugalbandi competition was held on 31st October 2019. The students came in groups of 5-10 students wherein they had to perform creatively by amalgamating vocal and instrumental music.
The groups enthralled the audience with their very creative performances and melodious renditions. They chose various joners of music like sufi, prayer song, folk songs etc, combining them with tabla, dholak and keyboard.
The winners were selected on the basis of creativity, selection of song (non bollywood) costume and synchronisation of vocal music, instrumentals & dance.
 
 
"Spell-A-Thon [ English & Hindi]" competition was held for class V on 30th October 2019

 Intra-class competition Spell-a-thon was conducted in two rounds- preliminary and final round on 30th October 2019. The activity was conducted in both Hindi and English. The first round was a pen paper round where in the students wrote the spellings given by the teacher and best ten were chosen from every class. The final round was a spell bee competition where in the students spell the word given by the teacher in front of his/her peer. The students also had to face at tie-breaker round for the best to be chosen.

Spell Bee competition was held on 18th October 2019. The preliminary round was held in each section on 14th October 2019. Six students were selected from each class. Different rounds (six) were conducted to test the vocabulary of Grade II level. The rounds tested students on word meanings, fill in the blanks, spellings etc. All the students showed great enthusiasm during the competition.

The Intra-class competition was held on 18th October 2019. The preliminary round was held in each section and six students were selected from each class. Students recited poem on different values of life like perseverance, honesty, kindness etc. All the participants recited poems confidently and some of them even surpassed the expected class level. The audience also enjoyed recitation competition.

"Know Your Spellings [English & Hindi]" competition was held for class III on 16th October 2019
Spelling is important because it aids in reading. It helps cement the connection that is shared between sounds and letters.
An intra-class spelling competition was organised for grade III in the month of October. This competition was one of the numerous enjoyable competitions that gave students a platform to learn spellings in different ways. This competition helped students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop the use of correct English. Students participated earnestly in the competition. Their efforts and initiative was appreciated by one and all. The students were selected on the basis of the rounds (i.e. identify and spell, Rapid fire, Complete the word, Hindi round I and round II.

A blooming mind (Science concept)
Science project competition for class III was organised on 24th September 2019. The participants worked in teams to create models, charts and information sheets to be presented for the intra class competition. On the day of presentation, each team presented their science concept(s) through charts, models, information sheets and verbal explanation. The criteria for judgement was clarity of Concept, material used, confidence, presentation skills and teamwork.

Ad Mad competition was held on 24th September 2019. The preliminary round was held in each section on 20th September 2019. Ten students from each section was selected for the final round. The students participated with enthusiasm and acted out advertisements created by them. Some presented funny ads, some sang and acted their ads. Each participant was praised for their creativity and acting skills. The well prepared props were appreciated by the judges.

'Wordsworth (poem writing)' Competition was held in class IV on 23th September 2019

Intraclass Poem writing competition 'Wordsworth' was conducted on 23rd September 2019. The preliminary round was conducted on 16th September 2019 where in all students were given a chance to write a poem of at least 8 lines on a topic of their choice. The final round was conducted on 23rd September where in the selected students were to compose a poem on any one topic from the given, like, Cafeteria, The word of Books, Me and Myself, Getting caught in the Rain, In my word the grass is blue and the sky is green, When I look out of my window. The winners were selected on the basis of the flow, relevance and vocabulary used.

'Budding Scientists' Competition was held in class I on 23th September 2019

The students performed simple science experiments. The preliminary round was held on 23rd September 2019 and 6 students were selected from each section for the final competition. The students performed interesting experiments to show science facts like air occupies space, solubility of different things like salt, sugar, oil etc. in water, and also made an interesting display of a volcanic eruption using vinegar and baking soda. They explain their experiments with confidence and use the appropriate term to describe reactions. Their effort was appreciated by judges and visitors alike.

'Expempore' Competition was held in class V on 20th September 2019

Intra class competition, Extempore, was held in two rounds. The preliminary round was held throughout the week where in each child was given a chance to express his views on a given topic on the spot. The final round was held on 20th September 2019 where in the 18 finalist had to pick-up a chit and speak on the spot. For were judged on the basis of relevance to the topic, presentation i.e. pronunciation, vocabulary used, pause and time limit.
